Ex-Worcester Manager Augustus Leaving Dean College Job
After stepping down as city manager last May, Ed Augustus Jr. became Dean College's first chancellor.

WORCESTER, MA — After nine months as the first chancellor of Dean College in Franklin, former Worcester city manager Ed Augustus Jr. is stepping down, the school announced Monday.
Dean Board of Trustees Chair Mark Boyce revealed Augustus' departure in a letter to the school on Monday. Boyce did not name a reason for the split, and said Augustus would remain a board of trustees advisor through June.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Dean College, I extend my sincere gratitude and thanks to Edward M. Augustus, Jr. as he steps down from his role as its first Chancellor. We thank him for his years of service to Dean College as a Board Member, and for his contribution at a critical moment in Dean’s history as we turn toward a new era of growth and development," Boyce said in the letter.

Augustus became the Dean chancellor in June working alongside newly hired Dean President Kenneth Elmore. The chancellor job was a return to higher education for Augustus: he became Worcester's interim city manager a decade ago after leaving a role as the Holy Cross director of government relations.
Augustus took over as Worcester city manager full-time in January 2014. He concluded his tenure at the end of May 2022. City Manager Eric Batista was one of Augustus' key deputies at city hall.
