Rescue teams went into the icy water where the car was partially submerged in about 4 feet of water. They tried to open the doors, but couldn't, according to the fire department. Crews worked to pull the car out of the water and it was only then that they were able to break a window and force open the door and use hydrolic rescue tools, also known as "the Jaws of Life" metal cutters to get the driver out.
