Issue Contained: Major Water Main Break In Worcester

A large water main break wreaked havoc on the Greendale area of Worcester Tuesday.

WORCESTER, MA—A huge water main break in Worcester caused major delays and problems on Tuesday afternoon in Worcester. The area has been contained as of Wednesday morning.

The break occurred in the Greendale area of the city on Norton Drive near the Greendale Mall on Tuesday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Exit 1, which heads to Route 190 Northbound from West Boylston Street and Gold Star Boulevard, was closed. Route 12 to Route 190 north was also closed.

As of Tuesday evening, the water break had been isolated and the issue contained, said Worcester's DPW. The DPW also said that for customers who lost water pressure, it would take several hours for pressure to build back up in the system and service would return to normal.
