Police Sergeant: 'This Is Why I'm Proud To Be An American'
A struggling man in his town reminded an Oxford police sgt. of why he's proud to be American, and how the man should inspire us all.

OXFORD, MA—"This is Melvin. Melvin has had some tough times recently but he hasn't lost faith," wrote Sgt. Jason Burdett of the Oxford Police Department on its Facebook page on Saturday.
Burdett explains that he spotted the man in town, and he was down to a worn out pair of sandals that barely stayed on his feet. A good Samaritan had given Melvin a gift card to Walmart, so Burdett took him down to the store.
"Take a deep look at the photo and you will see an American flag on the bench next to him," wrote Burdett. "A man down to zero dollars and a torn up pair of sandals at rock bottom walked into Walmart and wouldn't leave till he found an American flag. Melvin walked out of Walmart with a new pair of socks, shoes and an American flag in his hand. This is why I'm proud to be an American. Melvin inspired me today and should inspire all of us.”
