Suspect Arrested Who Fled Charlton Police In One Cuff & One Shoe

Charlton police say they have arrested a suspect who they say escaped custody in one shoe with a hand in cuffs.

CHARLTON, MA — A suspect who ran away from Charlton police custody while being detained Tuesday morning has been arrested after an hours-long search.

Massachusetts State Troopers were trying to arrest Luis Morales, 29 around 8 a.m. on multiple warrants for charges including attempted murder and assault, but say he took off on foot near the woods near the Massachusetts Turnpike and Charlton Plaza.

Charlton Police said Morales had a handcuff on one hand and was missing a shoe when he fled.

An hour later, State Police say they found the SUV Morales had taken off from at a Walmart off Route 146 in Worcester. The woman driving the car was detained.

The woods search near the plaza was terminated around 10:15 a.m. and police say they expanded their search.

State Police say they arrested Morales around 3 p.m. at an apartment on Pawtucket Blvd. in Lowell.

At first, police said Morales was wanted for attempted murder, but it was revealed later he was wanted out of Lawrence for six separate warrants, including two for armed robbery.
