Trash Talk: Where Are The Dirtiest Areas In Worcester?

WORCESTER, MA—Diapers. A bag with a half-eaten Whopper. A row of attached rubber tires. Plastic flower pots. Toys. Dental picks (that's a common one). A disco ball or a wig (we've seen both strewn about the land). In too many areas of towns and cities, litter is part of the landscape, blowing in the street, or embedded in the brush on the side of the road.

With Earth Day looming (Earth Day is April 22 this year), most towns and cities are planning their events, and annual community clean-ups.

Worcester comes together to clean up the town of its annual Earth Day event on Saturday, April 7, when the Regional Environmental Council hosts its 29th annual Earth Day Neighborhood & Garden Cleanups.

You can volunteer to join the squads who are cleaning up areas in the city, or sign up as a site coordinator.

"This is a truly a community-wide event in which residents like you come together every year to give Worcester the spring-cleaning it deserves," writes the REC.

Last year, more than 1,200 volunteers joined in the effort, cleaning up more than 100 tons of trash and recyclables at 68 sites across Worcester.
