Worcester Closing All City Buildings Due To Nor'easter

Heavy snow began falling near daybreak in Worcester. All municipal buildings will be closed as a result.

WORCESTER, MA — For the first time this winter, Worcester will close all municipal buildings Tuesday due to an ongoing nor'easter.

At noon, the city will close the senior center, the library, city hall — including the clerk's office — the Department of Public Works and Parks offices, the public health offices and the fire prevention office.

Emergency services like police, fire and plowing will not be affected by the other municipal closures.

The Tuesday Worcester City Council meeting has also been called off. All business for that meeting will be combined with the agenda for the March 21 meeting.

Worcester is under a winter storm warning until 8 a.m. Wednesday with up to a foot possible in the area. Wet, heavy snow began falling in Worcester near daybreak, prompting concerns about power outages.

"Heavy wet snow and strong wind gusts may result in downed tree limbs and power outages," the National Weather Service said.

Worcester had already called off trash pickup on Tuesday, instituted a parking ban and closed schools.
