WORCESTER, MA — Worcester bookseller and coffee shop Root and Press is preparing for a crosstown move.

The Tatnuck café is moving from its Chandler Street base to a new store along Shrewsbury Street, owner Rich Collins said Thursday. Collins said space was the main factor in the move.

"We had definitely outgrown our space (kitchen space, seating capacity, operating space for employees, book/retail space — all of the above.) This was the main driving force behind the move," he said via email Thursday.

Collins opened the Chandler Street café in 2019, bringing a bookstore to the neighborhood for the first time in years. The new location will be at 156 Shrewsbury St., the address of the former Beirut Bite restaurant next door to Valentino's.

Collins said the closure of the Chandler Street location will happen toward the end of 2023. Collins went before the Worcester License Commission to request a license for the new location, with proposed hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
