Students currently applying to college can get some free expert help at the Sunday, Oct. 16.
Patrick O'Connor, director of college counseling at the Roeper School and author of College is Yours 2.0: Preparing, Applying and Paying for Colleges Perfect for You will be available to answer questions about choosing a college, visiting a college campus and how to write college application essays.
“October is the middle of college application season” said O’Connor, a past president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and a recipient of two NACAC awards. “While students will need to see their school counselor for bigger questions, they are welcome to come by with quick questions that can help get applications out that much sooner.”

Handouts regarding how to pay for college will also be available at no cost.
"It’s too early to file the federal form for aid, but it’s never too early to hunt for scholarships” said O’Connor. “Too many families think there’s no money around for college, but that’s just not the case.”

A resident of Birmingham, O’Connor said this is a chance for him to give back to the town where he raised his family.
“It’s a special place to live and work in, and I’d like to do my part to keep a great city vibrant.”
