He was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital to be evaluated.

The suspect has prior felony convictions for concealed weapons and assault with a dangerous weapon as well as a murder conviction out of Grand Rapids, according to police. Per his parole, he should not have been in possession of any guns, police say.

Police arrested two 17-year-olds shortly before 10 p.m. Oct. 5 for carrying a concealed weapon into the AMC Star Gratiot theater.

Police had responded to the theater for the report of a fight. Upon arrival, a manager told police some of the subjects involved in the fight had already left, but witnesses had told him they saw one of the teens give another a handgun, according to the police report.

Witnesses confirmed to police that the male teen had taken a handgun out of the waistband of his pants and given it to the female to put in her purse.

Entering the theater, police ordered both teens to the ground. Both said they had no knowledge of the gun, but police found a Glock 9mm in the female’s purse, according to the report. The weapon was registered to a Detroit man.

The pair were arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and will be charged as adults.

Police pursue charges for woman who cried wolf on gun threat

Police have requested a warrant for a woman living in the 24000 block of Hickory Lane who made a false report Oct. 9 in which she told a 911 dispatcher that her boyfriend, with whom she was arguing at the time, had a gun.

Arriving at the residence around 8:15 p.m., officers were met at the door by the woman and her mother. Seeing the boyfriend at the top of the stairs with his hands behind his back, officers ordered him to the ground but found no weapon on him, according to the police report.

The woman later told officers that she made up the part about the gun because “in Detroit the police come faster if you say there is a gun involved,” the report says.

Between the woman and her boyfriend, three different names were given to officers for the boyfriend, who was arrested Oct. 9 for disguising with intent to hinder arrest, according to the police report.

Det. Capt. Richard Maierle said police plan to charge the woman with providing false information to dispatch with the intention of misleading a police officer, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
