$2,500 Reward Offered In Dearborn Kitten Abuse Case

Eight-month old kitten was tied to a picker bush and left in front of the Ford Motor Company's World Headquarters.

DEARBORN, MI — An eight-month kitten was found Monday at the Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn tied to a picker bush. Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is offering a $2,500 reward for tips in the case.

The kitten, nicknamed Mustang, is expected to survive. FAMD Director Elaine Greene said a rope tied around Mustang’s neck broke the skin and caused internal injuries. She does not believe the damage is permanent.

Dearborn Animal Control was called after the kitten was discovered by Ford workers, Greene said. From there, he was taken for treatment to the Vet Select clinic in Dearborn, but she said his injuries will have to heal on their own. Surgery wasn’t an option, Greene said.

The good news is, when Mustang is healthy enough, a Vet Select worker will adopt him. Greene still wants to find out who hurt the kitten.

“It’s truly unconscionable what was done to him,” she added. Anyone with information is asked to call the shelter at 313-943-2607.

While Mustang’s story looks to have a happy ending, Greene said many more cats and dogs need homes, too. She says her shelter simply has too many animals right now.

In an effort to find homes for them, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is running adoption specials, said Greene. Cats and kittens can be adopted on a two-for-one basis. The fee for cat adoption is $35 and $60 for kittens.

Many larger dogs need homes as well. Friends normally charges $140 for their adoption, but right now dogs that are more than 20 pounds and older than six months can be adopted for just $50. For more information, visit Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.
