ACCESS Names Mohamed A. El-Erian As Arab American of the Year

The ACCESS 46th Annual Dinner will take place at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center on April 22 in Detroit.

DEARBORN, MI — The Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services will honor financial expert and bestselling author Mohamed A. El-Erian with the Arab American of the Year Award at its 46th Annual Dinner later this month. El-Erian currently serves as the chief economic advisor to Allianz and is a regular columnist for Bloomberg View and contributing editor for the Financial Times.

The ACCESS 46th Annual Dinner will take place at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center on April 22 in Detroit. The Dearborn-based organization has served the community since 1971 with its mission being to assist the Arab immigrant population in adapting to life in the United States. According to the organization’s website, ACCESS is the largest Arab American human services nonprofit in the United States.

El-Erian, a finance expert and advisor, was named one of the 500 most powerful people on the planet in 2013 by Foreign Policy Magazine and listed as one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers, four years in a row by the same publication. He is the former CEO and Co-Chief Investment Officer of PIMCO—an American investment management firm and prominent authority in the financial markets.

El-Erian appears regularly on CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg, along with other media outlets, to discuss economic and financial issues in the public and private sector. He is the author of two New York Times bestsellers, When Markets Collide (2008) and The Only Game in Town (2016). His first book won the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award and was named a book of the year by The Economist.

In addition to serving on the board of several think tanks and academic institutions, El-Erian served as the chair of President Barack Obama’s Global Development Council, from 2012 to 2017. He has also chaired Microsoft’s Investment Advisory Committee since 2006 and co-heads the capital campaign for Cambridge University and its Colleges. El-Erian is also an honorary fellow of Queens’ College.
