Gas Price Hike Coming This Summer: AAA Michigan

Prices are projected to hit $2.70 a gallon by this summer.

DEARBORN, MI — Gas prices could jump by as much as 60 cents this summer, according to Dearborn-based AAA Michigan. OPEC members are expected to reduce production later this spring and the summer gas blend is more expensive, AAA says.

Currently, gas can be found as cheap as $2.11 a gallon for regular gas at the Circle K at Michigan Avenue and Gulley Road in Dearborn, according to detroitgasprices.com. Three other stations in town, including Shell at 2740 Monroe Street, a Ford Road BP and an Outer Drive Marathon, are selling at $2.13 per gallon.

AAA Michigan projects that gas prices will hit $2.70 a gallon by this summer, CBS Detroit reported. AAA’s Spokesperson Susan Hiltz told the station that 70 percent of consumers plan to adjust their weekly driving habits to save gas.

“Most people are not going to scrap the summer vacation plans,” Hiltz told CBS Detroit. “I mean the good news too is a lot of folks stay in Michigan so if you’re doing a driving trip in Michigan it’s not going to hurt your family budget as much as flying, which might be a higher cost.”
