Sareini Seeks To Get Most Out Of Every Tax Dollar

Dearborn Councilman Sareini seeking re-election to be 'voice of reason' on council.

DEARBORN, MI — Tuesday’s primary election is an important one in Dearborn. Voters will be asked to select single candidates for mayor and clerk to run in November’s general election. Likewise, more than a dozen candidates are vying for seven seats on city council.

Patch recently sent questions to the candidates. The idea is for the candidates to introduce themselves and their ideas to voters. Three profiles were published on Friday, including David Bazzy, Robert Abraham and Sharon Dulmage. More candidates will follow on Sunday and Monday.

What follows is a verbatim transcript of the questions and answers from candidate Michael T. Sareini, who is seeking a city council slot:

Why are you running for Council?
I am running for Council because like you, Dearborn is my home and I want my children to grow up in a clean and safe environment. I can also say that there is nothing more rewarding then helping residents that either cannot help themselves or just need direction to getting the answer. During the past 4 years I have had the pleasure of serving our residents and would be honored to continue.

I believe in our city and am committed to serving its residents. I have never shied away from controversial issues or asking the tough questions. That includes overseeing our city’s general operating budget of $117 million, ensuring resident concerns are addressed, and city services are of highest quality. I encourage the voters to watch any Council meeting from the last 4 years (On-Demand at www.CDTV.com) and see that I am asking the pertinent questions in the best interest of our residents.

I have made myself accessible to our residents and pride myself as always responding to their needs. As an attorney and an experienced sales consultant I have been an effective Councilman making several policy changes that have resulted in thousands of taxpayer dollars saved. It has been an honor to serve as your Councilman and I hope to have 1 of your 7 votes.

Top Priorities
With the uncertainty of State revenue sharing and nearly 69 cents of every dollar allocated to public safety, we are challenged with finding a way to do more with less. I understand the responsibility that comes with managing public dollars, I have consistently been the voice of reason on the Council, and have made sure your resources are being properly allocated and that your tax dollars are not wasted.

It is my priority to find ways to tackle the tough issues and ensure that we are getting the most out of every tax dollar. We need to improve our infrastructure such as roads, clean our streets, maintain our great Parks, broaden our recreation opportunities for our youth as well beautify our business districts. I will continue to advocate for the safety of our residents by providing funding to create a downtown district police detail to ensure the safety of our patrons and ensuring that our business can thrive.
