Suspicious Woman Tries to Steal Lawn Gnomes from Dearborn Home

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A would-be thief was scared off by a homeowner while attempting to steal lawn gnomes from a home in the 24000 block of Notre Dame Street in Dearborn on Friday.

According to police reports, the homeowner told police she saw a 2011 red Ford Fusion being backed into her driveway at about 9:15 a.m. A woman got out of the car, picked up the gnomes that were in a plant bed and began placing them in the trunk of the car.

The homeowner yelled at the woman to drop the gnomes, which she did. The suspect hurriedly got into the car and drove east toward Telegraph Road.

The homeowner told officers she did not know the suspect and did not know why someone would want to steal her gnomes.
