15k Without Power In Metro Detroit; NWS Issues Wind Advisory

METRO DETROIT — 15,000 DTE customers throughout metro Detroit are without power Thursday morning due to strong winds.

The largest outages were in Sterling Heights, Rochester Hills and Milford, according to the DTE outage map. There are also outages reported in Farmington Hills, Oak Park and Redford.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Thursday until 4:00 p.m. Southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts in excess of 45 mph will be more frequent by midday, as the cold front makes inroads through Southeast Michigan, NWS said.

The gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and tree limbs could be blown down, causing more power outages, NWS warned.

Thursday high will reach 59 degrees before cooling down to an overnight low of 32 degrees.
