20K Without Power In Metro Detroit After Overnight Storms

There is also another chance of storms across southeastern Michigan Tuesday.

METRO DETROIT — More than 20,000 DTE and Consumers Energy customers were without power Tuesday morning after a wave of severe thunderstorms rolled through the area overnight, according to the utilities.

The outages were mostly scattered throughout the metro Detroit area, but some of the hardest hit areas were downriver communities and central Oakland County areas, including the Birmingham area, according to the utilities.

Some local roadways and neighborhoods saw flooding due to heavy rainfall from the storms, though there were no serious reports of damage, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service asked on social media if "anyone has damage reports from the thunderstorms last night and this morning" and, if so, to either add them as a comment on the Facebook post or "send them our way!"

DTE and Consumers Energy said they are working as fast as possible to restore the outages, as highs are expected to reach the mid 80s with elevated levels of humidity Tuesday.
