Arctic Blast To Bring More Snow, Gusty Winds To Detroit Area

Forecasters warned the strong winds will cause blowing snow that will reduce visibility on the roads.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — More snow is expected across southeastern Michigan this week amid an Arctic blast that will push temperatures into the single digits with gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow is expected to begin falling Wednesday afternoon when highs drop into the 20s with gusty winds reaching up to 40 miles per hour across southeastern Michigan, according to the national weather service.

Forecasters warned the strong winds will cause blowing snow that will reduce visibility on the roads and create hazardous driving conditions.

Up to 2 inches of snow is expected across southeastern Michigan by Thursday morning when wind chill readings will push temperatures into the single digits, according to the national weather service.

The weather system will also bring more snow and colder temperatures to other areas of Michigan.

Northern Michigan, where some areas just got hit by nearly 30 inches of lake effect snow over Thanksgiving weekend, can see an additional foot of snow by Thursday with wind chill readings at or below zero degrees, according to the national weather service.

Parts of west Michigan and mid Michigan can see between 3 and 5 inches of fresh snow by Thursday, also with wind chill readings at or below zero degrees, according to the national weather service.

In southeastern Michigan, cold temperatures and single digit wind chills will stick around Friday, before slightly warmer air moves into the region with more snow chances this weekend, according to the national weather service.
