Coronavirus Testing For Detroit Essential Workers Begins Monday

The testing will also be available to city employees providing essential services and restaurant workers.

DETROIT, MI — The city on Monday announced testing for the new coronavirus will begin for essential business employees. Mayor Mike Duggan said he hopes Detroit will become the first city in the U.S. to have testing in place all essential business employees.

Duggan's announcement was made in a news release stating that the city will begin testing for employees at businesses providing essential services, such as grocery stores, gas stations and pharmacies. The testing, which is taking place at the state fairgrounds, will also be available to city employees providing essential services and restaurant workers.

Essential businesses are asked to call (313) 230-0505 to register their company and receive an access code. The code will allow business owners or employees to make testing appointments without a doctor's prescription.
