Dad Charged For 2-Year-Old Daughter's Death

DETROIT, MI — A 39-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection to the death of his 2-year-old daughter, who authorities found lying lifeless at the bottom of the stairs in their home in February. Thomas Smith has been charged with felony murder, torture and child abuse for the death of his daughter on Feb. 11 inside their home in the 14000 block of Corbett.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide resulting from abusive head trauma and blunt force chest trauma, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Smith was arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court on the charges and remanded to Wayne County Jail. A probable cause conference is scheduled for June 15.
