Deadline Coming Up For Detroit Free Press/TCF Marathon

DETROIT, MI — The deadlines are approaching for one of the region's most popular marathons.

The registration deadline for the international portions of the annual Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Marathon is just one month away on Aug.26, 2019. The last time to register that day is at 11:59 p.m.

The international portions of the weekend race events include: International Marathon, International Half-Marathon, Marathon Team Relay, the Disabilities Division for pushrim and handcycles, The Supreme and The Wonder.

Less than 230 spots are currently available for the full 26.2-mile marathon, organizers said. Deadlines to register for domestic races is Monday, Oct. 14, all events are on a space available basis.

More than 26,000 runners from every state including the District of Columbia and 50 other countries are expected to take part in race weekend, now in its 42nd year and being held on October 19-20, 2019.

The event is Michigan’s largest road race through the streets of Detroit and Windsor, Canada and the only race to cross international borders twice, over the Ambassador Bridge and through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Information on registration can be found here.

Building on the success of events introduced last year, the Motor City Challenge Series (where participants take part in a variety of weekend races) and theCompetitive 1-Mile Race will remain part of this year’s line-up. Other Marathon weekend races include: US-Only Half-Marathon, the 5K, Kids Fun Run andThe Temptation.

Oct. 18 will kick off the weekend events with a Health and Fitness Expo at COBO Center featuring more than 100 exhibitors, showcasing the latest in running footwear, apparel, nutrition, technology and more.

More than 4,000 participants will run to raise funds for 40 charities at the Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Marathon, with more than $2 million expected to be raised. In 2018, more than 35,000 cheering spectators lined the racecourse with an estimated economic impact to Detroit at $13.8 million.
