Detroit Leads The Nation In Violent Crime: FBI Data
The FBI Crime in the United States report released Monday shows the number of violent crimes reported to police in 2019.
DETROIT, MI — Detroit leads the nation in violent crime reported to police, according to the FBI Crime in the United States reported released Monday.
According to the report, Detroit reported 13,040 violent crimes. The city saw a 3 percent drop from 2018, when 13,478 violent crimes were reported in Detroit, according to the FBI data.
The city led the nation in violent crimes reported per 100,000 people, with 1,965. Close behind Detroit was St. Louis, Missouri, Memphis, Tennessee, and Baltimore, Maryland.

The FBI Crime in the United States report released Monday shows the amount of violent crimes —such assaults, murders, rapes and robberies — reported in Michigan cities based on population.

In Dearborn, 305 violent crimes were reported in 2019.
Troy reported 67 violent crimes.
Eighty-seven violent crimes were reported in Farmington Hills.
Forty-eight violent crimes were reported in Novi.
Michigan as a whole mirrored the trend seen in Detroit, with 43,686 violent crimes having been reported in the state in 2019. That number is a little over a 3 percent drop from 2018, when 45,176 violent crimes were reported.
In 2019, about 1.2 million violent crimes occurred nationwide, a decrease of 0.5 percent from the 2018 estimate, according to the data.
