Detroit Man Accused In Deadly Southfield Shooting: Prosecutors

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit man has been accused by Wayne County prosecutors of shooting and killing a 54-year-old man in Southfield in March.

Jovan Geno Reed, 33, was arraigned Wednesday before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek on one count of first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm, prosecutors said.

Detroit police responded to the area of the Southfield Service Drive and West Davison March 2 following reports that a person had been shot, prosecutors said. When officers arrived, they found a victim with gunshot wounds, prosecutors said.

The victim, David James Johnson of Detroit, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to prosecutors.

An investigation led to Kleparek's arrest; prosecutors said additional information would be available in future court hearings.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Oct. 7.
