DETROIT, MI — Grammy Award-winning rapper Nicki Minaj could face criminal charges in connection with an assault alleged in a former manager's recent lawsuit, TMZ reported.

Law enforcement sources told the outlet that the Detroit Police Department has issued a warrant asking the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office review the allegation to determine whether charges will be issued, according to a report on Saturday.

In a suit filed on Friday, Brandon Garrett claims he used to manage Minaj and she got physical with him in Detroit last April, according to the outlet.

Variety reported that Minaj, who grew up Onika Maraj in Queens, NY, was sued for assault, battery, and "intentional infliction of emotional distress" by Garret, who claims she struck him in the face during a confrontation.

Garrett, in a complaint filed in Los Angeles, claims he was working as a per diem manager on the Pink Friday 2 tour when the rapper hit him several times backstage after a concert at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on April 21, the outlet reported.

Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, told the outlet his client denies the allegations.

“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty [Minaj’s husband is Kenneth Petty], and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Bernstein told Variety. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”
