Detroit Radio Icon Dead At 82

A Detroit broadcasting legend, who was on the air for nearly 40 years, died Friday.

DETROIT — Longtime Detroit radio host and TV anchor Warren Pierce died Friday. He was 82.

Pierce, who was born and raised in Detroit, was best known as host of "The Warren Pierce Show" on WJR-AM (760) and as an anchor at Fox 2 Detroit.

Pierce spent nearly 40 years on air at WJR, where he helped lead the popular talk show. The show was known for its wide-ranging interviews and energetic storytelling. Overall, Pierce interviewed more than 70,000 people, according to his obituary.

"His work extended beyond the studio, as he broadcast live from across Michigan and around the world," his obituary said. "His distinctive voice, curiosity, and unwavering commitment to his craft left an enduring impression on listeners across the state."

Outside the studio, Pierce was a passionate University of Michigan Wolverines football fan and loved animals, particularly golden retrievers. He had a beloved dog named Duke, who provided him with immense comfort and companionship, his obituary said.

Pierce is survived by his four daughters—Karen Rosett, Meredith Block, Alexandra Taves, and Samantha Pierce—and four grandchildren. He also maintained close relationships with his former wives, Darlene Sosnick and Jacquelyn Pierce, who were significant parts of his life.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dorfman Chapel at 30440 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills. The service will be broadcast through live stream.
