Detroit Woman Dies After Being Hit On I-94 While Changing Tire

Police said a husband and wife were on the shoulder of the road changing a flat tire when a pickup truck hit them.

DETROIT, MI — A 55-year-old Detroit woman has died after being hit by a vehicle on I-94 Monday morning while changing a tire on a vehicle, according to the Michigan State Police.

Troopers said they were called to eastbound I-94 and Barrett Avenue in Detroit around 11:35 a.m. following reports of a crash involving pedestrians.

According to troopers, a husband and wife were on the right shoulder of the road changing a flat tire when a pickup truck swerved to avoid a rear end crash that took place on the freeway and struck both people changing the tire.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for their injuries, troopers said The wife died while the husband suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

A blood draw was completed on the driver of the pickup truck and his vehicle was impounded, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
