Heat Advisory: Heat Index Reaches 100 Degrees In Michigan Monday

A cold front is on its way tonight, but not before one more sweltering and potentially hazardous day of heat.

MICHIGAN — A heat advisory is in effect for counties across Michigan on Monday as the heat index value prepares to reach 100 degrees again this afternoon. Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair and Livingston counties are all under the advisement, which lasts until 6 p.m. Monday.

Temperatures are expected to quickly climb to 90 degrees by noon on Monday with highs in the mid-90s this afternoon. The temperature will quickly drop this evening as a cold front moves through the region.

Such severe heat is potentially hazardous for the elderly or those with pre-existing health problems like breathing conditions. The combination of the hot temperatures and high humidity are what cause heat illnesses, according to the National Weather Service, and locals are reminded to drink plenty of fluids and stay in a cool room, out of the sun if possible. Michgianders should also check up on relatives and neighbors.
