Here Are The Metro Detroit Intersections With Most Crashes In 2022: Report

A Southeast Michigan Council of Governments report shows vehicle crashes in southeastern Michigan increased in 2022 from 2021.

METRO DETROIT — A new report shows vehicle crashes in southeastern Michigan increased in 2022 from 2021.

There were 128,821 vehicle crashes on metro Detroit roads in 2022, a 3 percent increase from 2021, according to a Southeast Michigan Council of Governments report.

Of those 128,821 vehicle crashes, 450 people were killed, a 5 percent increase from 2021, according to the report.

Crashes involving an impaired driver was the number one cause of fatalities, accounting for 163 of the 450 people killed in a crash, according to the report.

Another 14 percent of crashes involving fatalities and serious injuries were caused by speeding drivers, according to the report.

The report cited intersections as spots with the most crashes. Here are the intersections around southeastern Michigan with the most crashes:

  2. North M-5 at Martin Parkway, Commerce Township; 2022 Crashes 84
  3. 18 1/2 Mile Road at South M-53/Van Dyke Avenue Ramp, Sterling Heights; 2022 Crashes 79
  4. Southfield Road at Dix Highway, Lincoln Park; 2022 Crashes 79
  5. Van Dyke Avenue at East M-59, Utica; 2022 Crashes 78
  6. Farmington Road at Maple Road West, West Bloomfield; 2022 Crashes 76
  7. Telegraph Road and 12 Mile Road West, Southfield; 2022 Crashes 72
  8. Whitmore Lake Road at Lee Road, Brighton; 2022 Crashes 69
  9. 14 Mile Road West at Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Hills; 2022 Crashes 65
