I-94 In Detroit To Close This Weekend For Bridge Demolition
Crews will be removing the McClellan Avenue overpass over Interstate 94 in Detroit.

DETROIT — A section of Interstate 94 in Detroit will be closed this weekend for bridge demolition, according to road officials.
Both directions of Interstate 94 between Interstate 75 and Gratiot Avenue (M-3) will close down at 8 p.m. Friday so crews can remove the McClellan Avenue overpass, according to road officials.
Both directions of the freeway will open back up by 5 a.m. Monday morning, according to road officials.

During the closure, all westbound traffic will be on southbound M-3 and northbound Interstate 75 back to westbound Interstate 94. All eastbound traffic will be sent south onto Interstate 75 and northbound M-3 back to eastbound Interstate 94.
All westbound Interstate 94 entrance ramps will be closed from Cadieux Road to M-3. All eastbound Interstate 94 entrance ramps will be closed from West Grand Boulevard to Van Dyke Avenue (M-53).

The McClellan Avenue overpass, which was originally built in 1957, was closed in March 2024 due to poor structural conditions.
Once removed, crews will not replace the bridge because of future upgrades to the Interstate 94 and Gratiot Avenue (M-3 interchange, according to road officials.
