Metro Detroit Woman Shot, Injured While Driving On I-96: Police

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was in stable condition, according to police.​​​​

DETROIT — A metro Detroit woman was shot and injured while driving on Interstate 96 in Detroit early Tuesday, according to Michigan State Police.

The shooting happened at 12:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the freeway near between Joy Rd and W. Chicago Avenue in Detroit, according to police.

Police said the 27-year-old Redford woman was driving in the left center lane when an unknown vehicle approached from behind in the left lane. She told troopers she heard multiple gunshots as the vehicle approached. The vehicle then sped away, according to police.

The woman pulled over to the left shoulder and partially blocked the left lane, according to police.

She then got out of the car and ran to a nearby McDonald's restaurant, where she called 911, according to police.

Troopers arrived and determined the 27-year-old victim was shot on the freeway, according to police.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was in stable condition, according to police.

"Troopers located items of evidence along the freeway," Michigan State First Lt. Mike Shaw. "Right now troopers are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and get a better description of the unknown suspect vehicle.
