Michigan Coronavirus Numbers: 967 New Cases Reported
Tuesday's totals were the fifth consecutive day that Michigan reported fewer than 1,000 new cases.
MICHIGAN — The state has reported fewer than 1,000 new cases of the coronavirus for the fifth straight day.
There were 967 new coronavirus cases reported in Michigan Tuesday, bringing the overall number of cases to 32,967. The state also reported an additional 232 coronavirus-related deaths Tuesday, bringing the statewide death total to 2,700.
Tuesday's totals were the fifth consecutive day that Michigan reported fewer than 1,000 new cases. The state reported 1,204 new cases on April 16.

State numbers are released daily at 3 p.m. but are indicative of what has been reported by 10 a.m. that day.
Numbers are sometimes altered as public health officials investigate individual cases. Case numbers sometimes do not match numbers provided by respective counties due to several variables, including testing done by private organizations that report to either the state or the county but not both.
Deaths are reported by health care providers and recorded by local health departments. Other data, such the number of individuals who have recovered at the state level, are released on Saturdays.
Detroit, Wayne County Numbers
Southeast Michigan has been the hardest hit sector in the state since the beginning of the coronanvirus pandemic. Detroit, which reports separately from Wayne County, has reported the most cases of the coronavirus. As of Tuesday, the city has indicated it has 7,904 cases of the virus and 728 deaths resulting from it.
Wayne County has reported 6,351 cases — the most among Michigan counties — and 550 deaths.
Both Detroit and Wayne County have begun taking measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus and to get a better idea of how many people are actually infected. Along with state assistance, both have begun pushing for expanded testing.
Detroit on Monday announced that it had become the first city in the state to provide drive-thru coronavirus testing to residents without a prescription or referral from doctors.
The city has seen an improvement in its death totals in recent days, but Mayor Mike Duggan has warned residents against easing precautions.
On Tuesday, Dearborn announced it was offering drive-thru testing through a partnership between the state and CVS Health.
Oakland County Numbers
Oakland County has reported 6,306 cases of the coronavirus. The county also has reported 506 deaths attributed to the virus.
Like Wayne County and Detroit, Oakland County has added drive-thru testing to try and determine how many people have contracted the coronavirus. The county announced last week it was beginning the testing.
Oakland County took a hit Tuesday when Beaumont Health, which is headquartered in Royal Oak, announced it was laying off more than 2,400 employees and eliminating 450 jobs permanently.
Michigan and U.S. Totals
The World Health Organization announced Tuesday that the overall number of coronavirus cases has topped 803,000 in the U.S. The organization also reported over 43,000 people have died from the virus in the U.S.
Michigan has the sixth highest number of reported cases in the U.S. However, it continues to have an elevated death toll, ranking No. 3 in the country behind only New York and New Jersey.
