Michigan Now Has Over 30,000 Coronavirus Cases
Michigan reported 760 new cases of the coronavirus Friday, and 134 new deaths attributed to the virus.
MICHIGAN — The number of newly reported cases of the coronavirus in Michigan on Friday was below 1,000 for just the third time since March.
Michigan reported 760 new cases of the coronavirus, and 134 new deaths attributed to the virus. The updated numbers bring statewide totals to 30,023 and 2,227, respectively.
Michigan reported 997 new cases Monday and 645 on Sunday. Aside from those days, Friday was the lowest single-day increase the state has reported since March 26, when 564 new cases were reported. The highest single-day total the state has seen was April 3, when 1,953 new cases were reported.

State numbers are released daily at 3 p.m. but are indicative of what has been reported by 10 a.m. that day.

Numbers are sometimes altered as public health officials investigate individual cases. Case numbers sometimes do not match numbers provided by respective counties due to several variables, including testing done by private organizations that report to either the state or the county but not both.
Deaths are reported by health care providers and recorded by local health departments. Other data, such the number of individuals who have recovered at the state level, are released on Saturdays.
Detroit and Wayne County Coronavirus Numbers
Detroit, which reports separately from Wayne County, has reported the highest concentration of coronavirus cases and deaths in Michigan. The city on Friday reported 7,414 cases and 582 deaths.
The newest available data shows Oakland County with 5,901 coronavirus cases and 442 deaths.

Oakland County Data Leak
While that information is available to the public, information that is not readily available to residents was accidentally released earlier this week.
The data, which included information related to the county's positive cases such as the gender, race, age, address and mortality status of patients, was leaked at about 7 p.m. Tuesday and secured by 8 a.m. Wednesday, officials said. The information was shared on the WeChat application.
The data leakage was of a non-public map that was unintentionally marked as public during a recent upload, officials said. The leak did not include name, social security number, or any other health information.
Federal Lawsuit Filed Against Oakland County
A group of civil rights organizations on Friday filed a federal lawsuit against the county and some of its officials, demanding at-risk inmates lodged in the county jail be released.
The lawsuit claims county officials are risking the lives of inmates and staff inside the jail and the community at large because of a failure to respond to the threat of the coronavirus.
Wayne County Coronavirus Numbers
Wayne County, which reported 5,819 cases and 462 deaths related to the coronavirus, has seen the crux of its cases in Livonia. The city reported 537 local coronavirus cases, according to information provided by the county health department.

U.S. and Global Totals
Michigan has dropped to No. 5 in the country in coronavirus cases. While it was once No. 3 in the nation, Michigan is now behind New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania in reported cases. Michigan still ranks No. 3 in coronavirus deaths, however.
The U.S. has reported more than 690,000 cases of the virus as of Friday, according to data provided by the World Health Organization. The U.S. has also reported nearly 36,000 deaths due to the virus. Both are the highest in the world.
WHO has reported more than 58,000 people have recovered from the virus within the U.S.
Around the globe, more than 2.2 million have contracted the coronavirus. Of those, more than 151,000 have died. WHO reports over 566,000 has recovered.
