Michigan Report 4,536 New Coronavirus Cases, 47 Deaths Monday
More than 415,000 people in Michigan have recovered from the virus, state health officials said.
MICHIGAN — Michigan added 4,536 new cases of the coronavirus and 47 deaths attributed to the respiratory illness Monday, state health officials reported.
Monday's figures, which include Sunday, bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan to 523,618. The coronavirus death toll in Michigan stands at 13,401, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services numbers.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, state health officials reported that 415,079 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus.

Monday was a significant day for some in Michigan, as the state advanced into a new phase of its COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan. The new phase allowed for people 65 years old and up, some front-line essential workers and some K-12 teachers to receive doses of the vaccine.

However, Michigan's distribution of the vaccine hasn't been without some issue. In Oakland County, county executive David Coulter said the county needs more of the vaccine to meet its demand, and similar issues have presented themselves in Macomb County.
Demand for the vaccine prompted one Michigan hospital system to more than triple its server power after it was inundated with people requesting vaccines.
Beaumont Health said that it processes about 900 new myBeaumontChart accounts on a typical day, but on Friday, while nearly 9,000 people activated accounts, thousands of others could not access the website. At one point, more than 25,000 users simultaneously attempted to register for myBeaumontChart, according to the hospital.
The state did see a somewhat positive trend with its reporting of coronavirus outbreaks in schools Monday, reporting that just three new outbreaks in Michigan schools. The state reported three outbreaks last week and seven the week before, but had been reporting 25 or higher for some time.
