Michigan Tops 27,000 Reported Coronavirus Cases

With over 1,300 new cases of the coronavirus reported Tuesday, Michigan has reached 27,001 cases overall.

MICHIGAN — The state on Tuesday reported more than 1,300 additional cases of the new coronavirus, pushing the statewide total over 27,000.

There were 1,366 new coronavirus cases reported in Michigan as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, and an additional 166 deaths. State totals have reached 27,001 overall cases, and 1,768 deaths.

In southeast Michigan, Detroit continues to post high numbers. The city, which reports separately from Wayne County, has reported 7,004 cases and 427 deaths. Both are the highs among Michigan communities.

Oakland County reported 5,364 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 364 deaths attributed to the virus. Oakland County on Tuesday announced that it would begin drive-thru testing for the coronavirus as early as Thursday for certain essential workers.

Officials expect between 50-100 tests will be offered the first two days, and capacity will increase to 250 tests each day next week. Results are expected within 24-48 hours.

In Macomb County there were 3,620 cases reported Tuesday. The county also had 293 reported deaths.

The median age of victims of the coronavirus is 75, with the virus claiming people ranging from 20 to 107 years old. Of reported cases, 54 percent are women, while 57 percent of those who have died from the virus are men.

Across the globe, coronavirus numbers have grown closer to 2 million. More than 124,000 people have reportedly died from the virus, according to the most recent numbers.

The U.S. numbers are nearing 600,000, with more than 598,000 coronavirus cases reported as of Tuesday. The national death toll has now reached 24,770.
