The Most Dangerous Place To Ride Bikes In Metro Detroit
A new study looked at the most dangerous place to ride a bicycle in the region and it's notoriously congested.

METRO DETROIT — When it comes to cycling, safety is a top priority, especially sharing the road with cars, trucks, other cyclists and pedestrians. That can be especially tough around Motor City. A new study by a group of Chicago area workers compensation attorneys looked at the most dangerous roads in cities with populations of 500,000 more and the ever-busy stretch of Ford Road in Canton was named the region’s most deadly area. Particularly, the 3.6-mile stretch along a congested commercial area featuring dozens of restaurants and the very popular IKEA store

Nationwide, according to the study, more than 1,000 bicyclists died in 2015 and nearly half a million sustained injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Of the 34 cities on the list, the cities with the highest pedalcyclist fatality rates are Albuquerque (8.94 pedalcyclist fatalities per 1 million people) and Tucson (7.52 pedalcyclist fatalities per 1 million people). Dallas and Indianapolis had the lowest pedalcyclist fatality rates with 0.77 pedalcyclist fatalities per 1 million people and 1.17 pedalcyclist fatalities per 1 million people, respectively.
