Over 350 Flights Delayed, Canceled At Detroit Metro Airport

More than 350 flights​ at Detroit Metro Airport were delayed or canceled Wednesday due to an icy winter storm, according to Flightaware.

ROMULUS, MI — More than 350 flights at Detroit Metro Airport were delayed or canceled Wednesday as a powerful icy winter storm moves though Michigan, according to Flightaware.

Most of Wednesday's canceled flights at the airport are with Delta and Skywest. Delta canceled 62 flights and delayed another 52. Skywest canceled 52 flights.

Officials asked travelers to check their flight status before driving to Detroit Metro Airport.

"We have enjoyed an unusually sunny February, but we are now reminded that it is still winter here in Michigan," said Col. Joe Gasper, director of the MSP. "With this potentially dangerous storm hitting across the state, we advise all Michiganders to take precautions and avoid non-essential travel when possible."

A powerful coast-to-coast winter storm is expected to bring freezing rain and heavy snow to Michigan on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

An ice storm warning is in effect for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties from noon Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Genesee, Lapeer and Sanilac counties from noon Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Wayne and Monroe counties from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
