Part of a major freeway in Detroit is closing this weekend, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation​.

Crews will close both directions of Interstate 94  between Michigan 10 (Lodge Freeway) and Interstate 75 Friday evening at 7 p.m, officials said. The freeway is expected to open back up Monday morning at 5 p.m.

DETROIT — Part of a major freeway in Detroit is closing this weekend, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Crews will close both directions of Interstate 94 between Michigan 10 (Lodge Freeway) and Interstate 75 Friday evening at 7 p.m, officials said. The freeway is expected to open back up Monday morning at 5 p.m.

Construction crews are installing a new bridge foundation and a traffic shift, officials said. The work is part of an ongoing project to replace the Cass Avenue overpass above Interstate 94.

All entrance ramps to eastbound Interstate 94 from 30th Street to Lodge Freeway and westbound Interstate 94 from Mt. Elliott to Linwood streets will also be closed, officials said.

  • Northbound and southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) to eastbound I-94
  • Westbound I-94 to northbound and southbound M-10
  • The John R. Road entrance ramp to westbound I-94
  • The eastbound I-94 exit to John R/Woodward Avenue

When the freeway reopens, officials said eastbound and westbound Interstate 94 will have three lanes open with traffic shifted toward the outside shoulder to accommodate the bridge support work.
