Record Cold: Here’s What’s Shut Down Wednesday
Here's your look at what is closed around Metro Detroit Wednesday as an arctic blast hits the region.

MICHIGAN — With once-in-a-generation freezing temperatures setting in around Michigan and the Midwest, many institutions and facilities are closing down for safety reasons.
School districts started Tuesday announcing closures for Wednesday, including in Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and Dearborn. Some preemptively closed for Thursday, while others will make the call Wednesday afternoon.

Michigan State University, The University of Michigan, Wayne State University, University of Detroit-Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Grand Valley State, Michigan Tech and the University of Michigan-Dearborn were some of the colleges to announce closures ini the bitter temperatures.
Temperatures are expected to feel like -50 degrees with the windchill and that cold is even too unbearable for the zoo. A rare move in its 90-year history, the Detroit Zoo announced it would close down, along with the Belle Isle Nature Center.

The 36th District Court in Detroit will also be closed. All prison visits through the Michigan Department of Corrections have been suspended.
The Fox Theatre and The Mall At Partridge Creek are also closed Wednesday.
While many places are closing down, warming centers are opening up across the region. Here is a list in the tri-county area.
