METRO DETROIT — Road crews began Thursday the second and final year of a resurfacing project on 8 Mile Road in metro Detroit, according to state road officials.
The project includes resurfacing areas on 8 Mile Road between Michigan 1 (Woodward Avenue) and Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Avenue), with work beginning on the westbound lanes first, according to state road officials.
The first phase of the project is expected to last through May 8, according to state road officials.

Here's what you need to know:
- Westbound Michigan 102 (8 Mile Road) will have two lanes open from Dequindre to John R. roads for improvements and resurfacing.
- The westbound Michigan 102 (8 Mile Road) service drive will have one lane open from Merrill Avenue, west of Dequindre Road, to John R. Road.
- The northbound Interstate 75 service drive will have one lane open at Michigan 102 (8 Mile Road).
- The northbound Interstate 75 service drive ramp to westbound Michigan 102 (8 Mile Road) will have one ramp lane open.
All intersections and crossovers will remain open during this stage of work. After May 8, work will move to improve the intersections of the westbound Michigan 102 (8 Mile Road) service drive and the Interstate 75 service drives, according to state road officials.

This $50 million investment involves resurfacing roughly five miles of Michigan 102 (8 Mile Road) between Michigan 1 (Woodward Avenue) and Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Avenue) through the communities of Detroit, Ferndale, Hazel Park and Warren, according to state road officials.
The work includes hot-mix asphalt resurfacing, concrete patching, signal upgrades, sidewalk ramp improvements compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), sign replacement, drainage upgrades, and bridge work at Interstate 75, according to state road officials.
