Southeast MI Police Chase Ends In Toledo After Suspect Killed

Police have not said what led to the chase.

TOLEDO, OH — A police chase that began in southeast Michigan early Monday morning ended in Ohio when the suspect was shot and killed by police, according to media reports.

According to The Associated Press, the chase began in Monroe. Police chased the suspect into Toledo, where he struck a utility pole and fled on foot.

The man, identified as 50-year-old Michael Clifton, left his vehicle and ran from police while holding a gun to his head, according to WTOL in Ohio.

When negotiations between the man and police failed, his actions forced police to open fire, the station reported, citing police.

Police have not yet said what specifically caused them to open fire. Police also have not said what led to the chase. No police officers were injured.
