Severe Storms Possible Across Detroit Area This Week Amid Warmer Temps

There will be chances for showers and storms to start the weekend across southeastern Michigan.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Thunderstorms will be possible this week across southeastern Michigan as temperatures are set to surge well-above average, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs across the region will reach the 60s on Thursday before a warm front moves into the area during the nighttime hours, bringing the first chance for showers and storms, according to the weather service.

The warm front will push temperatures well into the 70s by Friday evening when strong thunderstorms are expected to cross the region, according to the weather service.

Forecasters warned the storms can bring large hail and damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour.

As of Wednesday morning, there is a slight risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms Friday evening.

The showers and thunderstorms will linger through the overnight hours and into Saturday morning, before clearing afternoon skies and highs in the 60s, according to the weather service.

Average temperatures and chances for rain will stick around in southeastern Michigan on Easter Sunday and into early next week, according to the weather service.
