Neighbors helped rescue multiple people from the burning home, officials said.

DETROIT — A woman died and five other people were injured in a Detroit house fire Tuesday morning, Detroit Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Clapp told reporters.

The fire happened at 9:50 a.m. at a home on San Juan Street, near Eight Mile Rd. and Livernois, Clapp said.

Clapp said there were six people inside the home when it caught fire. Five of them, including two small children, made it out alive with the help of neighbors, Clapp said.

Of the surviving victims, a teen and toddler were in critical condition, while three other vicitms were treated for possible smoke inhalation and burns.

One neighbor told WXYZ he had to kick the door open to help those trapped inside get out of the burning home.

"I grabbed one toddler out the side window and was actually able to kick the side door open so they could get out," one neighbor told WXYZ. "Then from there, I had to run in the kitchen and get the other boy. When I kicked in the door, it was full of smoke, thick black smoke."

Fire officials were still investigating the cause of the fire.
