Eldery Man Reports Attempted Carjacking in Farmington Hills

The man told police the incident occurred after the woman asked him for a ride.

An 85-year-old man told Farmington Hills Police Saturday that a woman to whom he offered a ride tried to steal his car.

According to the report, a dispatcher received a call at 3:10 p.m. about a person being dragged by, or hanging on to, a moving vehicle. Police found the damaged vehicle resting on top of boulders at the Muirwood Enclave apartment complex. The elderly man was sitting on a chair nearby, bleeding from both hands.

The report indicated that man told police the woman flagged him down at the Drake Road entrance to Busch's Fresh Foods Market and Grand Tavern. When they got to the Muirwood parking lot, the man said, the woman told him she was hungry. He offered her a doughnut, but she replied, "Just give me your money, and I want your car, too."

As they struggled over control of the vehicle, the report noted, the vehicle crashed onto the boulders. The two fell out, and the woman ran away. Police later found her at Rite Aid drugstore in the shopping center.

The man was treated at the scene for the injuries to his hands.
