Football Rivalry Nets Farmington Hills Resident Two Smoke Alarms

Tim Sirvoy wins the alarms in a drawing at an October Harrison versus Farmington football game.

Tim Sirovoy may be a biggerĀ Harrison HighĀ Hawks football fan than ever before, after fire marshals from Farmington and Farmington Hills delivered and installedĀ two smoke alarms in his Farmington Hills home Monday.Ā

Farmington Hills FireĀ MarshalĀ Jason Olszewski andĀ Farmington FireĀ Marshal Reggie MadelineĀ entered a friendly competition during an OctoberĀ Harrison vs. Farmington Falcons football game. Kidde gaveĀ 50 smoke alarms to the fire department whose team won the game, and Harrison came out on top.Ā

Under the terms of the deal, Madeline will install two smoke alarms in each of 25 Farmington Hills homes.Ā

Sirvoy, who has lived in the community forĀ 17 years,Ā said he entered a drawing at the game. "I was very surprised when I got the call," he said.Ā

Some of the alarms in the Sirvoy home were hard-wired, meaning that they would not operate if the power went out. That happens all the time, Sirvoy said.Ā

With either the regular or 10-year models, smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, fire marshals said.Ā The 10-year alarms, installed in hallways on the first and second floors,Ā are powered byĀ lithium batteries.Ā

"Once you put 'em up, you don't have to worry about them," Madeline said.Ā
