Get Behind the Lens with Photography and Photoshop Courses
Develop your artistic eye with digital photography and Photoshop classes offered by the City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division.
From City of Farmington Hills: Get behind the lens and develop your artistic eye at Digital Photography and Photoshop classes offered by the City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division. The Digital Photography classes, offered at Heritage Park, are designed for both beginners and advanced students. The Photoshop class, offered at Costick Center, is for photographers who want to learn about digital editing and bring their photos to the next level. Participants need not enroll in both classes, but they have been conveniently scheduled so that students can benefit from taking both classes.
The Digital Photography class will teach you how to master the mechanics of your digital SLR camera, improve your compositional skills, and also discover the best ways to store, organize, edit, share, and print your photographs. This class welcomes beginner and advanced students, and the small class sizes successfully accommodate group and one-on- one instruction. Instructor S. Kay Young is a local photographer with national recognition who will lead walks through beautiful Heritage Park while guiding you in your photographic practice.
Young has exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Arts and has exhibited and lectured throughout North America. Digital Photography is offered on Saturdays from 12 to 2 p.m. on March 11 through April 1, and again on April 22 through May 13. Basic Photoshop class is also taught by S. Kay Young. Whether you are new to Adobe Photoshop or simply need a refresher in basic photo editing skills, this class is geared for photographers looking to take their original images to the next level. What used to be done with film in dark rooms is now being done digitally behind the computer. Learn techniques for common Photoshop processes including selecting and isolating objects, creating image layers, masking and vignetting images, experimenting with type, and enhancing images with basic retouching. All participants must bring their laptop or tablet complete with Adobe Photoshop already installed. This software is available from Adobe for purchase or by subscription.
