Oakland Country Residents In 2022 Winter Olympics
There are five residents from Oakland County who will be participating in the winter games in Beijing, China.
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — There are five athletes from Oakland County participating in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
The opening ceremony for the olympics are scheduled to begin on Feb. 3, with the games lasting from Feb. 4 through Feb. 20. There are also seven new events, including Monobob, which is expected to get a lot of attention because of its competitive balance.
Team USA is expected to have 222 athletes competing for medals in the games. Five of them are from Oakland County:

Jean-Luc Baker, Bloomfield Hills, Figure Skating
Baker, 28, is a figure skater with skating partner Kaitlin Hawayek. This is the first Olympics for both Baker and Hawayek, according to the duo's website.

Madison Chock, Novi, Figure Skating
Chock is 29 and graduated from Novi High School and Schoolcraft College. She will be competing in her third olympics with partner Evan Bates, who is from Ann Arbor. The two have competed together for more than a decade and placed 8th at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and 9th at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018.
Kaitlin Hawayek, Bloomfield Hills, Figure Skating
Hawayek is 25 and graduated from Troy Athens High School. She is also a partner to Evan Bates will compete in her first Olympic Games, after the duo nearly missed the 2018 Olympics.
Zoe Kalapos, Beverly Hills, Snowboarding
The 24-year-old will be competing in her first Olympics.
Pat Nagle, Bloomfield Township, Hockey
Nagle, 34, currently plays for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL. He also played several years for the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Detroit Red Wings minor league affiliation. He will also be playing in his first olympics.
Megan Keller, Farmington Hills, Team USA Hockey
The 25-year-old is one of 13 members of the 2018 gold medal winning team returning to Olympic play in 2022.
