Sam’s Club Temporarily Stalls Liquidation Sale
Store Closes Early After Large Crowd Overwhelms Staff

Sam’s Club in Farmington Hills closed early Wednesday after store staff became overwhelmed by larger-than-expected crowds. While Farmington Hills Police made it clear that no one was injured, not were there any Black Friday-style fights among patrons, store managers closed Sam’s when it became clear there were too many shoppers for staff to manage.
When the store reopened yesterday, Farmington Hills Police were there, helping manage traffic on the store’s parking lot. Police officials say the story will pay for the officers’ help. While the store was originally set to close Jan. 26, the shuttering of the Northwestern Highway outlet may occur as early as today.
Jan. 11, Sam’s Club and its parent company, Walmart, suddenly announced closures of dozens of Sam’s Club stores across the country, including two in Michigan - the Farmington Hills store, and one in Lansing. City officials had hoped to work with the national retailer, perhaps by making the closed store into a fulfillment center for Walmart, but these plans haven’t materialized.
