Learn more about this Farmington Hills-based business in this week's Small Business Shout Out.

The following answers were provided by Nancy McVicar, boardmember at Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue. If you have a business and want to participate in Patch's Small Business Shout Out you can fill out the form here.
When was the business founded?: "Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue was formally organized in February, 1998."
How did your business come to be?: "In 1998 a group of women bonded together with a common mission to rescue purebred cats from distressed situations and to place them in loving, permanent homes. Why single out purebred cats? Because, many well known groups existed for domestic cats, but none specifically for the purebred feline. Thus, a niche was filled and Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue was officially organized as a 501-(C)3 nonprofit organization."

Why did you choose to locate to Farmington Hills?: "Farmington Hills was the logical place because the Cat Shoppe was located in the city. This gives the Rescue a public location for adoptions, application processing and, if needed, a place for prospective adopters to meet a foster cat they are interested in. It also gives us visibility to the local community for fundraising (i.d., Founders Festival, Pet Days, etc)."
What kind of services do you offer?: "Cat adoptions, referrals, and when possible, rescue. We offer foster homes for rescued cats and thorough medical care for all the cats in the Rescue."

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?: "There are several. (1) We do not have a facility! (2) We do not declaw our cats because it is inhumane. (3) We have been around for 15 years."
What do you want your business to be best known for?: "The way that we care for our rescued cats from the time of their arrival to finding their forever home. We make sure they are given the diets, environments, dental procedures and medicines they need. We also take great care to match the cat's personality with prospective adoptive families."
What's your most popular product or service?: "Our most popular service is the way we care for rescued cats and how we strive to make a good match for the cat and the adopter."
