Dear FAPS Families,

As we navigate through these difficult times, dealing with a tragedy so close to home, we understand the heightened anxiety with sending students to school.  We also understand our students’ fears in attending school.

It is important to know, that at this time, the information that is being propagated on social media and shared by student/parent cell phone communication, has not been found to be a credible threat to Fenton Area Public Schools.  We, in partnership with Fenton Police Department, continue to use our threat assessment protocols to manage the day and the information we have coming into our district.

We are continuing to take precautionary measures by increasing our police presence and oversight at Fenton High School, as Dr. Hartley mentioned in his communication to our families earlier in the week.

Making threats to a public school is a crime and both the school district and Fenton police department take every potential threat seriously.

Please speak with your children and reassure them that law enforcement and school leaders will investigate every potential threat and take whatever action is warranted to protect our community.

Fenton police officers, along with FAPS staff counselors and social workers, will be present and visible in our schools going forward to provide additional security, support, and assurance to students, parents, and staff.  Our students and staff safety remain our top priority, and we are committed to providing a consistent level-headed approach to this tragedy so our students see us as the support they need.
