Ferndale Library Welcomes Author Miriam Gershow on March 29

The Ferndale Public LibraryΒ is pleased to announce that the author ofΒ The Local News, Miriam Gershow, will visit the library on Thurs., Mar. 29 to discuss her work, meet readers and sign books. Free tickets for Gershow’s visit will be available at the library beginning Mar. 15. This special event is part of Ferndale Reads, the library’s annual month-long, community-wide read.Β The Local NewsΒ is at the center of this year’s series of events, which features, Go Comedy performances, a film series, a 90s trivia night, book discussions and more.Β 

Miriam Gershow is a novelist, short story writer and teacher. Her debut novel,Β The Local News, was published by Spiegel & Grau in February 2009. It has been called β€œunusually credible and precise" and "deftly heartbreaking” byΒ The New York Times, as well as β€œan accomplished debut” (Publisher’s Weekly) with a β€œdisarmingly unsentimental narrative voice,” (Kirkus Reviews).

Miriam is the recipient of a Fiction Fellowship from theΒ Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, as well as anΒ Oregon Literary Fellowship. HerΒ storiesΒ appear inΒ The Georgia Review, Quarterly West, Black Warrior Review, Nimrod International Journal, The Journal, andΒ Gulf Coast, among other journals. Miriam’s stories have been listed in the 100 Distinguished Stories ofThe Best American Short Stories 2007Β and appeared in theΒ 2008 Robert Olen Butler Prize Stories. She is also a past winner of the AWP Intro Journals award and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
